Honouring its commitment to revert off-net domestic calls free, India's Biggest telecom has announced yesterday that it is making all domestic calls free from 1st January 2021.this is due to ending of the IUC (Interconnect Usage Regime) Regime for domestic voice calls that has come to an end on December 31st 2020 as stated in an Official press release. Thus, the company has kept its promise and decided to make all off-net domestic voice calls free. Off-net calls refer to calls that terminate in the other operators network.
Free Voice Calls
Due to a delay in the implementation of the 'Bill and Keep' regime by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) the company had no option but to charge the applicable IUC when making calls to all other networks outside of Jio which stood at 6 paise per minute. This had lead to increased prices in tariff plans. The Zero-IUC regime was previously slated to come into effect from January 2020 but deferred its implementation till January 2021.
The company has more than 406 million subscribers and is aiming to roll out 5G services by the second half of 2021.
